Rohlfing and his lead foremen Jeff Kneemiller really took ownership of the project, especially during the 24-hour period when the tie-ins were made to the existing plant. This was completed in the middle of the night when treatment flows were lowest, 2 hours ahead of schedule. This gave the plant a few additional hours to troubleshoot any issues between the interface between the old and new sections of the plants.

Rod Kadera (GMC’s superintendent) and his crew diligently worked with MSD’s operations when interfacing with their existing odor control system and various ductile iron pipe tie-ins to reduce plant down time and potential effluent discharges due to lack of capacity when introducing the new equipment.

The project was a system of elevated bridges that spanned the old portion of the power plant ending at the Heat Recovery Steam Generators and a span from one Heat Recovery Generator to the other. Black and Veatch, an international engineering and construction company, recently completed the construction of a 600 megawatt combined cycle power plant in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Gross Mechanical played a major role in the construction of this project and I would highly recommend them for future work. We had not previously worked with GMC when this job went out for bid. However, after a lengthy and thorough selection process, we felt that GMC would be the best contractor for this job when we elected to contract this work using a T&M contract delivery system because of their established management systems, i.e. scheduling, cost accounting and tracking, and management reporting.

Recently, Gross Mechanical was successful at winning a large contract that was competitively bid to fabricate and install 1,000 feet of welded piping in pipe rack at over 40 ft. in elevation, routed through sensitive operating units within the refinery for the ULD2 Feed Lines Project.  Their excellent execution strategy and planning effort, as outlined in their bid, along with competitive pricing and proposed schedule were keys in their being awarded this important, lump sum contract. In the field, they have performed this work efficiently and ahead of schedule with little extras. In closing, I would like to personally add that both Geoffrey and Michael Gross, acting as Project Managers for all of this work, are truly a pleasure to work with. CTI Field Services

Gross Mechanical Contractors has been used on the ConocoPhillips CORE project by Fluor in several capacities during the conduct of the Project. The major effort they performed involved shop fabrication of pipe spools. They also provided some onsite presence to ensure the spools were fit for the purpose. In all cases, the work was first class. The quality of the spools were excellent. They met or exceeded the schedule in every case, and often times under heavy duress to meet very tight deadlines. Their attention to and compliance with all safety requirements was impeccable. Their overall level of cooperation with the Fluor management team was far beyond expectations. We would not hesitate to use utilize Gross for future work for which they are qualified and would recommend them without reservation.

GMC’s project management personnel assisted with project definition and execution plans. They developed project schedule and resource planning based on these project plans. Their project management tools, procedures, and methods clearly identified "pinch points" and improvement opportunities. GMC project execution plans made project tracking and reporting straightforward and accurate. Productivity and performance can be reviewed/tracked as necessary. While GMC is adept at several construction disciplines, I feel piping and mechanical are their strongest skills. We strongly recommend Gross Mechanical Contractors as a valuable business partner.
